At-risk Youth and Juvenile Delinquency: The Impact of Preventive Intervention Methods and Reducing Juvenile Involvement with the Criminal Justice System. Farkhanda Wajibul Brandman University Many research studies have been conducted to determine what early interventions have proven most effective with at-risk youth. According to recent studies such as those conducted by Ferdon et al (2014), prevention and early intervention methods are essential and effective in reducing crime, violence, and other delinquent behavior in youth. It is imperative that parents, caretakers, families, community members, educators, and policy makers, educate themselves, spread awareness, and implement and utilize these interventions. In social work practice, according to The Council on Social Work Education (2012), social workers must engage in research-informed practice and practice-informed research: Use research evidence to inform practice. There are several intervention methods that have been researched, tested, and proven effective; there are some intervention methods that have proven ineffective. The purpose of this study is to conduct research to identify proven prevention and intervention methods that are effective in reducing juvenile interaction with the justice system, thus decreasing crime and having a positive impact on society as a whole.
